Everyone wants to be more productive, which is usually achieved with greater collaboration, especially if you’re a fast-moving startup. That’s exactly why Slack has seen such enormous growth and a valuation of $1 billion (yes, that’s with a “B”) — the tool helps teams be more collaborative, and therefore productive.
Talk about capitalizing on an industry need and finding your market fit!
We realize that the answer to increased productivity through collaboration isn’t more apps or tools, but integration of those that already make your life easier!
One of our best kept secrets (until today!) is that Mention integrates with both Slack and HipChat — another popular messaging tool — in two different ways:
- With RSS (free)
- With one of our favorite products: Zapier (paid)
With these integrations, you can be immediately alerted when someone mentions your company’s name (or competitors’ name, if that’s what you’re into), directly in a Slack or Hipchat channel, group, or private message. With this, you and your entire team able to stay on top of what’s being said about your company at all times, from anywhere.
Option one: Integrate Mention and Slack with RSS
To connect your Slack channel with Mention:
1. Open up your mention account → Select the “RSS” button in the upper right-hand corner
Which will result in this pop up:
Select your preferred type of mention (favorite, priority, etc.):
Copy the link.
2. Log into your Slack account and visit the integrations page
Scroll down to add an RSS feed:
Paste the RSS feed link in the right box, and choose your channel:
And you’re all set!
Want a more customized option? Try integrating with Slack or Hipchat using Zapier.
Option 2: Integrate Mention and Slack using Zapier
1. Visit the integration page here → Select “Start Using This!”
2. If you don’t already have a Zapier account, fill out the form on the following page
3. Choose your trigger action → “When you receive a new mention, send in Slack message”
4. Sync your accounts (will be prompted to login via pop-up page)
You will be redirected to your Mention account to login and authorize.
Repeat this process for Slack.
5. Filter your Mention triggers
Now for the fun part. This step is an important part of Zapier, as it dictates exactly what will be delivered to your Slack account – and how it will be delivered.
Account ID: There are a few options — select “My Account” →
Alert: The alert you would like to receive Mentions for (i.e. “my name” or “competitors name” or “Mention”) →
Source: The source you’d like to receive mentions from in Slack (news, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc.). Important: Leave this blank if you want to receive ALL mentions. →
Type: Select if you want only a certain type of mention (favorites, trashed, priority, etc.). Also leave blank if you want all.
6. Match your mentions to your Slack account
There’s a lot of options with your Slack integration.
Choose the Channel or Person you’d like the message to be delivered to → what you want the message to say → the name you want it to send from (i.e. “MentionBot” or “Mention Alert!,” and more!
7. Test your zap
8. Then, name your zap and turn it on!
The results will look something like this:
The same can be done for HipChat!
The process is slightly different, but just as easy. Check it out here!
That’s not all…more integrations!
That’s not all you can do with Mention and Zapier. You can also automatically respond to a mention on Twitter:
Or send an email of your mention via Gmail:
Or Salesforce to log social leads:
The options are nearly endless. See them all now.
Are you using any Mention Zapier or IFTTT recipes we don’t cover? Please share them in the comments below so we can all be a bit more productive. 🙂
