Important people. We wanted to know what some of the leading presenters and minds at Inbound17 were planning\u00a0for the near future. More importantly, <strong>we wanted to know how we could steal their ideas<\/strong>.<br \/>\nSo we chased a range of successful marketers and sales pros around with a mobile phone, and created a series of Facebook Live videos. These days, he&#8217;s\u00a0the\u00a0CEO of Mobile Monkey, a startup exploring artificial intelligence for mobile devices.<br \/>\nWe&#8217;ve worked with Larry before on our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vf87ZkhSUO0\">Real Smart Marketing<\/a> series, and it was a pleasure to see him again. We met Phil in the Wistia studio and he gave us some seriously expert advice about using video for marketing.<br \/>\nVideo&#8217;s only getting more important, so now&#8217;s the time to listen to Phil\u00a0and get started.<\/p>\n<h3>How to make video part of your marketing strategy<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Try to <strong>build an aesthetic<\/strong> that matches your brand identity.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s not about the tools. <strong>It&#8217;s about creativity<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>You need to foster a creative attitude within the business.<\/li>\n<li>If you don&#8217;t start with video now, it&#8217;ll be like ignoring the web 20 years ago<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Phil&#8217;s a great speaker. The majority of brands were quite scared about allowing junior marketing managers to be in control. We&#8217;ve now got to\u00a0a point\u00a0where everyone is fairly comfortable with the idea\u00a0that brands can be represented by many people and many voices, and there&#8217;s a consistency that&#8217;s applied there. I think video&#8217;s going to go the same way.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Ben Ratner, <a href=\"http:\/\/hubspot.com\">HubSpot<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nBen&#8217;s a Senior Growth Marketer at HubSpot, and he works to attract new users through HubSpot&#8217;s free products. So he knows all about bringing customers onboard with product marketing.<br \/>\nHe explained how\u00a0marketing teams\u00a0can use feedback about the product to improve the way they communicate with buyers.<\/p>\n<h3>How to use customer feedback to improve your marketing<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Zoom in &amp; zoom out<\/strong>. At that point, your greatest channel for coming up with new ideas is talking with your customers. Everyone wants to be that genius who comes up with ideas just by drinking scotch. But you always come up with bad ideas if your only trust yourself.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Denise Chan, <a href=\"http:\/\/bitly.com\">Bitly<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nDenise is the Senior Content and Community Manager at Bitly. As a sales person, a 30-second video for a prospect should only take 30 seconds to make. If you&#8217;re comfortable being on camera and comfortable with a few\u00a0<\/em>ums\u00a0<em>and\u00a0<\/em>ahs<em>, you don&#8217;t have to make it perfect. It&#8217;s not scary.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>David Ly Khim, <a href=\"http:\/\/hubspot.com\">HubSpot<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nDavid&#8217;s\u00a0a\u00a0growth marketer at HubSpot, so he knows all about the tactics and strategies we\u00a0<em>should<\/em> be using, rather than the ones we are.<br \/>\nWe\u00a0told about what he&#8217;s looking at in his work, and which channels we should think about as we market our brands.<\/p>\n<h3>How to identify new channels for your marketing<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>70% of your time\u00a0should be spent doing things that are already working. <strong>30% should be experimentation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Partnerships are essential<\/strong>. These mean that there&#8217;s someone who&#8217;s able to respond to messages without a human having to. <strong>You can scale acquisition<\/strong>. They&#8217;re actually extremely easy to make these days, but it does take some time.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Leah Schothorst, <a href=\"http:\/\/coschedule.com\/\">CoSchedule<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nLeah&#8217;s in charge of social media strategy at CoSchedule. the company is well known for its content and social media marketing, so Leah&#8217;s the perfect person to give advice on improving your digital presence.<br \/>\nWe asked her how to identify the\u00a0<em>right<\/em> content for each social platform, what to think about when creating new content, and why <a href=\"\/?page_id=642\">Facebook<\/a> video are different from YouTube.<\/p>\n<h3>How to create killer content for different social channels<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Focus on &#8220;10x content&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Make sure the content fits the channel<\/li>\n<li>User quotes and community engagement are perfect for Instagram<\/li>\n<li>Statistics and blog promotion work well on Twitter<\/li>\n<li>Facebook ads drive a lot of traffic to your website<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fmentionapp%2Fvideos%2F1416117095110161%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=267\" width=\"267\" height=\"476\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;We do something called &#8217;10x content&#8217; (versus &#8220;10% content&#8221;). 10x content is that content out there that&#8217;s going to drive your business 10 times more than your 10% content. We&#8217;re always trying to put out good content that&#8217;s helping marketers be better at their job. Versus the 10% content that only 10% of the people will find useful.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>That&#8217;s all for now&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p>That was all the advice we could squeeze into one little phone.
