{"id":21687,"date":"2019-02-27T15:30:36","date_gmt":"2019-02-27T15:30:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mention.com\/blog\/?p=21687"},"modified":"2025-03-04T16:24:14","modified_gmt":"2025-03-04T16:24:14","slug":"video-engagement-instagram","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mention.com\/en\/blog\/video-engagement-instagram\/","title":{"rendered":"Video Content Gets the Most Engagement on Instagram"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We have been preaching this for quite some time now: <a href=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/en\/blog\/video-content-strategy\/\">video is the most effective form of content, especially on Instagram.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is yet again confirmed by our analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This short post is the first of a series of five in which we share some of the results of our latest Instagram Engagement Report.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Instagram\u00a0Engagement Report reveals that video content is the best way to generate engagement\u00a0 as we saw:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Video posts generated an average of 150 comments.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Image posts generated an average of 65 comments.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Carousel posts generate an average of 80 comments.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/instagram_engagement_report_posts_average_comments.png\" alt=\"instagram engagement report posts average comments\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 871px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 871\/753;\"><br>Before you start questioning the data, keep in mind that <strong>this is an average<\/strong>. It takes into account the thousands and millions of comments generated by Instagram\u2019s most influential users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the majority of users, <strong>the reality is a bit less exciting<\/strong>.<br>A median analysis reveals that 50% of users receive <strong>less than 4 comments per video post<\/strong>. But with all things considered, this is still a high engagement rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h.eancmwxr8x59\">What does it mean for businesses?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We can\u2019t promise that each video you post on Instagram will generate millions of interactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But we can tell you that they are a key driver to generate higher engagement on the platform ( twice as much compared to image and carousel posts).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s look at a couple of examples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you notice anything on the following gif?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/instagram_engagement_report_social_backmarket.gif\" alt=\"instagram engagement report social backmarket\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1000px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1000\/954;\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s right, <strong>the video generated much more engagement than the images and carousels<\/strong>. Thousands of views and <strong>41 comments<\/strong>&nbsp;when most posts without a video generate less than 5 comments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s another example with a much bigger audience. Ubisoft\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img alt=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"678\" height=\"654\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Screen-Shot-2019-02-18-at-20.12.22.png\" alt=\"\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 678px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 678\/654;\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1500+ comments on the video, while other posts received 100 to 200 comments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cRemember this is a trend, not a rule or an exact science. The quality of the content and the timing are key. In fact, if you go on Ubisoft\u2019s Instagram page, you\u2019ll probably find videos with much lower engagement rates and images with thousands of comments.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><em>-Joel Gaudeul CMO, at Mention.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not an exact science.
