It&#8217;s not just another tweet or&nbsp;post you can publish, or an email you can send. <strong>There&#8217;s a real, live human just as involved in your success<\/strong> as you or the technology at your disposal.<br \/>\n[Tweet &#8220;Influencer-shared content is 16 times more engaging than paid or owned alternatives.&#8221;]<br \/>\nBut the numbers show that it\u2019s effective. Influencer-shared content is <a href=\"http:\/\/visual.ly\/guide-finding-right-social-influencers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">16 times more engaging<\/a> than paid or owned alternatives. Most of them are extremely busy and will delete your email without even opening it. True story. <em>Whomp.<\/em><br \/>\nLast year, I ran a campaign and reached out to over thirty influencers. Only one out of ten people responded to my first outreach email.<br \/>\n<iframe class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/Dxlt1TY7WHLm8\" width=\"480\" height=\"261\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><br \/>\n<\/iframe><br \/>\nAlthough it&#8217;s not easy, there\u2019s hope. With some <a href=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/en\/blog\/influencer-research-tools\/\">research<\/a> and well-crafted outreach and follow-up emails, you can improve your efforts and increase the chances that your favorite influencers will be receptive.<br \/>\nIn fact, by the end of my campaign, <b>my response rate was 48%<\/b>. This post will share the influencer outreach&nbsp;templates I used to do this &#8212; and why they worked.<br \/>\nNow let\u2019s jump into it.<\/p>\n<h2>The first outreach email<\/h2>\n<p>A great outreach email does four things:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Builds familiarity with your prospect.<\/li>\n<li>Clearly states the purpose of getting in touch.<\/li>\n<li>Provides value.<\/li>\n<li>Ends with action steps.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>[Tweet &#8220;The most important part of your first outreach email is to provide value to the prospect.&#8221;]<br \/>\n<strong>How you\u2019ll provide value to the influencer is the most important part of your first email.<\/strong> Whether through making a valuable introduction or featuring them on your popular&nbsp;website, <strong>there must be something&nbsp;in it for them.<\/strong><br \/>\nEasy, right? No pressure.<\/p>\n<h3>Here\u2019s a great outreach email&nbsp;template&nbsp;that does that<\/h3>\n<p><em>Hi [name]!<\/em><br \/>\n<em>I&#8217;m [your name] from [company]. I work with [mutual connection] who mentioned that you [what mutual connection said about the influencer].<\/em><br \/>\n<em>[Mutual connection] said that it would be a good idea to get in touch with you to learn more about [topic] and work on [project] together.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Does this sound like something you would be interested in? If so, I would love to call you&nbsp;some day this week around noon and figure out a way to make it mutually beneficial.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Let me know what you think!<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Best,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>[your name]<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Why this template does well<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>This email clearly states that you want to work on something with the influencer.<\/li>\n<li>You make it clear that it&#8217;s&nbsp;mutually beneficial &#8211; if the influencer works with you on this, they\u2019ll get something out of it too.<\/li>\n<li>The end of the email states specific time&nbsp;to further discuss the idea. This way, all they have to say is \u201cno\u201d or \u201cyes, how about Tuesday at noon?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s much easier to get in touch with an influencer if you have a mutual connection because <strong>if they trust someone who trusts you, they\u2019ll be more receptive<\/strong> to you. It\u2019ll be a warm connection.<br \/>\nIn some cases, you might not have a mutual connection with the influencer.<br \/>\n<strong>Here are some other common openers you can use:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I was inspired after you spoke at [name of event].<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019m an avid reader of your blog.<\/li>\n<li>We met last week at the [name of event or location].<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>From my experience reaching out to influencers about the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.hubspot.com\/marketing\/content-marketing-habits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">habits of effective content marketers<\/a>, it\u2019s likely that you won\u2019t get a response to your first email. Only&nbsp;five people responded to my&nbsp;first email.<br \/>\nThis can be for a variety of reasons. They forgot to respond. They didn\u2019t see it amongst the hundreds of other emails. They\u2019re out of the office and don\u2019t have wifi (the horror).<br \/>\nThat\u2019s why follow-up is crucial. It\u2019s a little nudge to tell them, \u201cHey don\u2019t forget me!\u201d But you have to do it without being annoying.<\/p>\n<h2>The&nbsp;actionable follow-up email<\/h2>\n<p>Here\u2019s what a great follow-up email does:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Gets straight to the point.<\/li>\n<li>Reminds the person what the previous email said.<\/li>\n<li>Reiterates the value you\u2019re providing.<\/li>\n<li>Ends with action steps.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>A&nbsp;follow-up influencer outreach template that&nbsp;works<\/h3>\n<p><em>Hi [name]!<\/em><br \/>\n<em>I\u2019m [your name] from [company]. I sent you an email last week about [project] that I think could be beneficial for us to partner up on. I\u2019ve come across your work on various occasions and really enjoyed [a project of theirs you enjoyed].<\/em><br \/>\n<em>I thought you&#8217;d be interested in working on this project because [reasons]. If you\u2019re interested, I&#8217;d&nbsp;love to get your take on the project and figure out how we can make it beneficial for both parties.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Let me know if you\u2019re interested in working something out. It&#8217;d be great to get on a call on [day] or [day] this week at noon!<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Just for reference here\u2019s some projects I\u2019ve worked on &#8211; just to let you know I follow through and am serious about making this work: [links to projects]<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Best,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>[your name]<\/em><br \/>\nBy using the above follow-up email,<strong> I ended up with a 53% response rate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Why this template works<\/h3>\n<p>You may find that you won\u2019t receive a response even after following up. You might have to follow up one more time just in case. One of the influencers I reached out to didn\u2019t respond for two weeks after my first email.<br \/>\nDon\u2019t be discouraged if an influencer doesn\u2019t respond. It\u2019s nothing personal. The key to effective influencer emails is to avoid asking for anything too soon.
