But really, all that data you\u2019re collecting on competitors is worthless if you don\u2019t know what to do with it.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Smart data needs to lead to smart decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that means doing more than just hoarding competitor mentions in your dashboard. You need to sit down, dig in, and get analytical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"\/?page_id=22975\">Monitoring your competitors<\/a> isn\u2019t enough &#8211; you need to sit down and analyze the data. Now, whether that is once a week, once a month, or once a quarter is completely up to you and the resources (both time, and available people) you have.&nbsp;<strong>But it needs to be done regularly<\/strong>. That is, if you want to improve your brand.<br>It&#8217;s all about setting up a routine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this blog post, I&#8217;ll be showing you how you can set up a quick routine to conduct social media competitive analyzes as regularly as you can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What you\u2019ll learn from a social analysis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By sitting down and taking the time to look at the data your <a href=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/en\/blog\/social-media-monitoring-tools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">social media monitoring<\/a>\u00a0or competitive dashboard has been bringing in, you\u2019ll see exactly where your social media strategy stands, compared to your competitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>From that, you can tell<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Which brands in your industry hold the highest <a href=\"\/en?page_id=59732\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">share of voice<\/a> on social media<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What people are talking about in conversations about your industry and competitors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What your industry is talking about to start the most buzz<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Which influencers are talking about your brand and competitors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which trends and insights to look for<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So, how will this help you build your social media strategy anyway?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll see where your brand stands in relation to your industry, who the influencers of your niche are, which competitors are succeeding on social, and how they\u2019re doing so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>See where your brand stands:<\/strong> by looking at how often competitors are mentioned, the sentiment of what\u2019s said, and other insights, you\u2019ll be able to benchmark your brand\u2019s market share. This will help measure the success of your social media strategy over time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Identify industry influencers:<\/strong> look at the important advocates talking about other companies in your industry to <a href=\"\/?page_id=620\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">find influencers<\/a> to work with on future social media and marketing campaigns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Measure your competitors\u2019 success:<\/strong> see if a certain social campaign gave your competitor a big boost in engagement and mentions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Find pockets of opportunity:<\/strong> what isn&#8217;t your competitor doing, that&#8217;s leaving a hole in your industry? This is where you can also export mentions to an Excel file, CSV, PDF, or TSV. It can be helpful to save a log of actual conversations to analyze later.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Switch over to the \u2018Twitter Influencers\u2019 to find the most influential members of the competitor\u2019s community. Click through to look at the conversations the mentions came from.<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"660\" height=\"413\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/find-influencers-competitive-analysis-1024x640.png\" alt=\"Social Media\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 660px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 660\/413;\"><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Export the \u201cMy Influencer List\u201d, along with important data about their social footprint, to an Excel file or CSV.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To&nbsp;create a competitive report and compare two or more brands:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In your Mention dashboard, click on&nbsp;&#8220;Reports,&#8221; and then select the &#8220;Create Report&#8221; at the top right. This includes <a href=\"\/?page_id=645\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sentiment analysis<\/a>, top sources and locations, and peak activity hours.<br><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/competitive-report-trends-social-media-1024x401.png\" alt=\"competitive-report-trends-social-media\" width=\"660\" height=\"258\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 660px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 660\/258;\"><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you want to filter your report by a certain source, sentiment, etc., hit the blue &#8220;Edit mode&#8221; button at the top of the screen. This lets you change any of the graphs you like, and remove any you&#8217;re not interested in.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To change the look of the report, click on the three little dots at the top right.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Schedule your report by clicking on the orange clock at the top of the screen. Then go through the mentions to pinpoint why more people were talking about them than usual. Is it a successful strategy you could adapt?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pick out influencers talking about your competitors<\/strong> with negative or neutral sentiment. They\u2019re less likely to be hardcore fans and might be more open to working with the brand\u2019s competitors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Use the topic clouds to look at what else is being discussed<\/strong> in these conversations. Are there good opportunities for you to jump in or start your own?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">You&#8217;ve got 5-minutes!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, listening to what your competition does and benchmarking your brand with their should&nbsp;<em>not<\/em>&nbsp;be a problem.
