You could try and anticipate for everything that could go wrong, but it\u2019s all over in one day &#8211; <strong>so there\u2019s only one shot to get it right.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One brand that consistently gets product launches right is of course, Apple.<br>Unless you\u2019ve been stranded on a deserted island for the last few weeks, there\u2019s no way you haven\u2019t heard about <strong>their much-anticipated yearly product launch keynote: #AppleEvent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ever since the very first iPhone was announced at the first edition in 2007, the #AppleEvent has grown bigger and bigger every year to become the global <em>rendezvous <\/em>that\u00a0<strong>tech aficionados cannot afford to miss<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img alt=\"\">As you may have expected, there were hundreds of thousands of conversations about the event across social media and I listened to <em>all<\/em>\u00a0of it &#8211;<strong>\u00a0using Mention of course.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cta-redirect.hubspot.com\/cta\/redirect\/1896803\/c6952384-b3c2-43b7-905e-d7fa6b26d2c3\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/no-cache.hubspot.com\/cta\/default\/1896803\/c6952384-b3c2-43b7-905e-d7fa6b26d2c3.png\" alt=\"New Call-to-action\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why you should monitor your product launch<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As I mentioned earlier, it\u2019s extremely important that brands get their product launches right. Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>They send a powerful message<\/strong>&nbsp;to their market and target audience: how good is the brand at innovating? Are they bringing something new?<\/li><li>They take a lot of time and resources to prepare, therefore, can be very, <strong>very costly<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Conversations about them will tell you a lot about your audience and users.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>But in order to ensure your launch goes smoothly, you need to know what people are saying about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where <a href=\"\/?page_id=22893\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">media monitoring<\/a> comes in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter how much you thought you hit it out of the park, only numbers and data will speak for the true success of your event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><em>Quick tip for those already using an online monitoring tool:<\/em><br><em>In this particular situation, we won\u2019t just be monitoring the term \u201cApple\u201d.<\/em><br><em>When tracking such a generic keyword, you need to be very specific or you\u2019ll end up monitoring conversations that aren\u2019t relevant to you.<\/em><br><em>To conduct this analysis, I used the following keywords:<\/em><br><em>#AppleEvent<\/em><br><em>iPhone (XS, XS Max, and XR)<\/em><br><em>Apple Watch<\/em><br><em>And narrowed my analysis to a specific time period (September 10th to September 15th) to eliminate as much noise and bias as possible.<\/em><br><em>Having said that, the hashtag and product names to monitor made it really easy for me. If I wanted to monitor the \u201cApple\u201d brand, and nothing else, an advanced <a href=\"https:\/\/en.support.mention.com\/en\/articles\/5120451-advanced-alert-principles-introduction-to-boolean-language\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">boolean search<\/a>\u00a0would have been necessary.<\/em><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Before I set out to do my analysis, I compiled a few questions that I wanted to answer about this event:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>How did the Internet respond<\/strong>&nbsp;to the latest announcements?<\/li><li>Where did most of the <strong>buzz come from<\/strong>?<\/li><li>What were the <strong>main topics<\/strong>&nbsp;discussed online following the event?<\/li><li>How were they discussed, and by who?<\/li><li><strong>And finally, what can we: <\/strong><em>marketers and PR pros<\/em><strong>&nbsp;&#8211; learn from it<\/strong>?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In this article, you\u2019ll learn about the biggest trends we observed at this year\u2019s #AppleEvent and <strong>what you should monitor in order to measure your own future product launches.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What was all the fuss about?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before getting into the nitty gritty, let\u2019s do a quick review of the event: what\u2019s new?<br>Well, not that much since most of the information <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vD1lpZvyW_8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leaked before<\/a><\/em>the event.<br>Apple announced <strong>4 new products<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A new Apple Watch<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>First, the <em>Apple Watch Series 4<\/em>.<br><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/apple_watch_series_4_watch_faces.jpg\" alt=\"monitor-product-launch-applewatch.jpg\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1200px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1200\/675;\"><br><em>Better, faster and stronger<\/em>&nbsp;than the previous version, the next generation of the Apple Watch also comes with notable <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/09\/12\/technology\/apple-event-live-iphone-watch-ios12.html?smtyp=cur&amp;smid=tw-nytimes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FDA approved<\/a><\/strong><strong>&nbsp;brand new health features<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>A fall detector<\/strong>: if you fall while wearing the watch and stop moving for a specific amount of time, the connected device will automatically suggest calling for help on your behalf.<\/li><li><strong>A heartbeat monitor<\/strong>: the watch now has an ECG (Electro-Cardiogram) function, is able to detect any abnormality and will advise you to see a doctor if needed.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The heart rate technology may not be groundbreaking as it\u2019s already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Heart+Rate+smartwatch&amp;spell=1&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=0ahUKEwjs2uvGpcfdAhVmyoUKHSYnAYIQBQgoKAA&amp;biw=1440&amp;bih=679\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">available on other devices<\/a>, but the ECG technology is pretty impressive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our sentiment analysis reveals that the\u00a0almighty Internet thinks so too:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"665\" height=\"770\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Capture-d_e_cran-2018-09-18-a_-16.15.50.png\" alt=\"monitor-product-launch-sentiment.jpg\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 665px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1422\/674;\"><br>Apple announced the iPhones XS, XS Max (2018 iterations of the existing X model) and a \u201ccheaper\u201d iPhone XR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having better cameras, batteries, screens, processors, according to Apple\u00a0is <strong>top-notch\u00a0technology<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, if last year was a major leap in <a href=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/en\/blog\/apple-social-mentions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">terms of features<\/a>, Apple did not revolutionize the industry much this time. Now that we know what they are, let\u2019 see how they were received online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How did the #AppleEvent echo online?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The \u2018Where\u2019<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>As expected, the entire world was talking about about the #AppleEvent. Most of the conversations came from 1) the US 2) France 3) Brazil, 4) India and 5) the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When tracking a product launch, it\u2019s important to keep an eye on where the event is being mentioned. If you\u2019re suddenly seeing a lot of mentions in regions you\u2019re not active in, it would be a good idea to do research opportunities for your brand in that market.<br><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"718\" height=\"402\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Capture-d_e_cran-2018-09-17-a_-17.06.42.png\" alt=\"monitor-product-launch-locations.jpg\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 718px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 718\/402;\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The \u2018Who\u2019<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s just as telling to see who is talking about your product launch. If you\u2019ve done y<a href=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/en\/blog\/social-media-launches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">our PR properly,<\/a>\u00a0you should be able to get the right people and publications to mention it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was no shortage of influential accounts and brands mentioning the #AppleEvent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/influenceurs_apple_event_product_launch_analysis_tweets.png\" alt=\"influenceurs apple event product launch analysis tweets\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1600\/446;\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All the top publications including 9Gag, NYTimes, GreenPeace, China Daily mentioned the event. So in terms of <a href=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/en\/blog\/market-to-millennials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">volume and reach<\/a>,\u00a0this is <strong>awesome\u00a0coverage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, being mentioned by influencers isn\u2019t always a good thing. While the NYT reported all that happened during the event, GreenPeace had a slightly different approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/nyt_greenpeace_product_launch_analysis_iphones-copie.png\" alt=\"nyt greenpeace product launch analysis iphones copie\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1446px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1446\/512;\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The \u2018What\u2019<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When monitoring your launch, be sure to track all of the important keywords around it. This includes the different models of products, features, and improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The iPhone has clearly been Apple\u2019s favorite child for years. However, they seem to have started dedicating more time and resources year after year\u00a0to the Apple watch. Let\u2019s see how people reacted to it online.<br><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"581\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/iphone_vs_apple_watch_event_product_launch_analysis_iphones.png\" alt=\"monitor-product-launch-mentions.jpg\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1000px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1000\/581;\"><br>The \u201ciPhone\u201d generated twice as much noise as the Apple Watch during the #AppleEvent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, if we take a closer look at the <em>iPhone<\/em>\u00a0models mentioned, it seems the <em>iPhone XS Max<\/em>\u00a0generated the most noise during the week of the announcement, followed by the <em>XS<\/em>\u00a0and <em>XR<\/em>\u00a0models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"855\" height=\"472\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/iphone_mentions_apple_event_product_launch_analysis.png\" alt=\"monitor-product-launch-volume.jpg\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 855px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 855\/472;\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which iPhone features were discussed the most?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically, people rave about the new features they\u2019re most excited about. In this case, it was the two improved features including the camera and storage space gathered loads of attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The actual <em>new<\/em>\u00a0feature (<em>Dual Sim<\/em>) was only mentioned <em>1 416 times<\/em>.<br><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/iphone_features_apple_event_product_launch_analysis.png\" alt=\"iphone features apple event product launch analysis\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 614px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 614\/473;\"><br><strong>Volume <\/strong>is an interesting and powerful insight to measure the success of an event.<br>But it only scrapes the surface. It doesn\u2019t convey any information regarding how the event went and how the announcements were received by the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The \u2018How\u2019<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Measuring the sentiment of a product launch and event can offer you the public feedback you\u2019re looking for. It allows you to understand what the audience liked and disliked about your products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What was the overall #AppleEvent sentiment? The event itself was received mostly positively.<br><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Capture-d_e_cran-2018-09-17-a_-17.12.10.png\" alt=\"Capture d e cran 2018 09 17 a 17.12.10\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 289px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 289\/345;\"><br><em>Neutral mentions put aside, about 90% of the noise around the event was positive.<\/em><br>Now, if we focus on the iPhone\u2019s overall sentiment &#8230; things get more complicated.<br><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/iphone_sentiment_apple_event_product_launch_analysis.png\" alt=\"iphone sentiment apple event product launch analysis\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1333px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1333\/725;\"><br>Nearly 25% of mentions we tracked were negative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How come? What are the negative\u00a0conversations about?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/drum_roll_event_product_launch_analysis_iphones.gif\" alt=\"drum roll event product launch analysis iphones\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 320px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 320\/180;\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The&nbsp;price is a big \u201cno no\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The top (worldwide) negative\u00a0keywords are mostly related to the <em>price<\/em>\u00a0of the new Apple devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, there were <strong>24 734 messages<\/strong>\u00a0discussing the new iPhones\u2019 prices.\u00a0As per usual, the Internet handled the situation with a hint of sarcasm:<br><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/iphone_prices_apple_event_product_launch_analysis.png\" alt=\"iphone prices apple event product launch analysis\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1600\/699;\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I investigated a little further &#8230; and it led me to France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPrix\u201d, meaning <em>price<\/em>\u00a0in French was the most common negative keyword associated to the new iPhones (<em>not so surprising since France was the second country with the most mentions about the event<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And there\u2019s a good reason for that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The <em>XR model<\/em>, starting at $749 in the US, starts at \u20ac859 in Europe.<\/li><li>The <em>XS model<\/em>, starting at $999 in the US, starts at \u20ac1159 in Europe.<\/li><li>The <em>XS Max model<\/em>, starting at $1099 in the US, starts at \u20ac1259 in Europe.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/price_apple_event_product_launch_analysis.gif\" alt=\"price apple event product launch analysis\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 401px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 401\/225;\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Price issues put aside, <strong>the #AppleEvent\u00a0was once again a PR success<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Almost 9 out of 10 mentions turned out to be <strong>positive<\/strong><em>.<\/em><\/li><li>There were <strong>hundreds of thousands<\/strong>&nbsp;of conversations.<\/li><li>Billions of people reached <strong>all over the planet<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly enough, the <em>battery <\/em>was <em>not <\/em>discussed so much this time (even though it\u2019s a known fact that iPhones, or smartphones in general lack in battery life) compared to features like the <em>camera <\/em>or the <em>price<\/em>\u00a0of the devices, seen as <strong>the<\/strong>\u00a0most negative fact about the phones this year.<br><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/battery_apple_event_product_launch_analysis.png\" alt=\"battery apple event product launch analysis\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 484px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 484\/471;\"><br>Is Apple playing with fire-selling devices at such a high price?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did Apple go too far this time with the price? Only time will tell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though the event itself received positive mentions, Apple <strong>should not<\/strong>\u00a0ignore the worrying 25% of negative mentions published during and after the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that we\u2019ve analyzed the conversations around these events, let\u2019s take a step back to see what we\u2019ve learned from it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4&nbsp;lessons we learned<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple did not only count on its worldwide reputation to generate buzz around the yearly #AppleEvent. They have an <a href=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/en\/blog\/event-marketing-monitor-your-trade-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">event planning strategy<\/a>\u00a0that is <em>almost<\/em>\u00a0bulletproof. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That being said, there\u2019s always room for improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are 4 things to learn from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Get in touch with <strong>influencers<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There were not only tech-journalists invited to attend the conference at the Steve Jobs Theater.<br>The room was also filled with influencers and world-known celebrities who actively participated to generate more buzz around the event by reaching out to their own community.<br><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/influencers_2_apple_event_product_launch_analysis.png\" alt=\"influencers 2 apple event product launch analysis\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 891px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 891\/616;\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/influencers_apple_event_product_launch_analysis.png\" alt=\"influencers apple event product launch analysis\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 829px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 829\/613;\"><br>Apple probably didn\u2019t reach out to all of the influential people discussing the #AppleEvent, because, well, they\u2019re <em>Apple<\/em>. Thousands of influential voices talked about it without Apple having to do anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did they know for example, that there were influencers creating and sharing content about the events in South Africa?<br><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/influencer_gif_apple_event_product_launch_analysis.gif\" alt=\"influencer gif apple event product launch analysis\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/451;\"><br>Apple teams could dig through this data and try building new relationships with these <a href=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/en\/blog\/influencer-brand-advocates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">influential brand advocates<\/a>\u00a0to reach new audiences next year. By securing a positive relationship with them, they\u2019re more likely to say positive things about your next launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Promote a #<strong>Hashtag<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/en\/blog\/hashtag-marketing-how-to-use-hashtags-for-better-marketing-campaigns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Promoting a #hashtag<\/a>\u00a0is probably the safest way to own and measure the impact of an event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are already using an advanced monitoring tool, you know you could follow conversations related to your event <em>without<\/em>\u00a0using any #hashtag. But #hashtags gather people around one specific topic. <strong>Your event<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be sure to leverage this opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Set expectations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We, humans, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/us\/blog\/creatures-habit\/200907\/we-are-creatures-habit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">are creatures of habit<\/a>. Apple knows that. They set an expectation to host an #AppleEvent at almost the exact same time, <strong>every single year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you haven\u2019t noticed, I\u2019m talking about the <em>second week of September<\/em>. The launch has been on that exact same week since 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By doing so, journalists and potential buyers know when exactly they can expect it <strong>every year.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Tease a little (but don\u2019t ruin the surprise)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is actually something Apple is <strong>not <\/strong>so great at.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is rather impossible to know whether Apple orchestrated the leaks or not, but a\u00a0lot of information has <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2018\/9\/12\/17849898\/apple-confirms-iphone-xs-iphone-xs-max-iphone-xr-names\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leaked from them<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0beforethe event. And it ruins the surprise for a lot of us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before social media, brands could control the conversations about them as they were very often the ones starting them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since <a href=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/en\/blog\/social-media-launches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">social media became mainstream<\/a>, the only time brands get to affect the conversations about them is when they announce something big. The lesson here is to ensure that you set embargos with journalists and publications. If you\u2019re working with influencers, be sure that they don\u2019t ruin the surprise by sharing with their communities!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Listen before you jump into the convo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There is very little (if nothing) we can teach Apple about communication. I mean, they did open their 2018 September event <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JHi-WGFGWek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">parodying Mission Impossible<\/a>. Wow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for listening, there are a couple things Apple could learn from this year\u2019s event. While the #AppleEvent hashtag did\u00a0generate major positive coverage, they should also always be keeping their eye on the topics that are sparking negative conversations to help improve their next launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What about you?
