Whether it\u2019s good news or bad, you need to take action immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Introducing Mention Spike<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our latest feature, <a href=\"\/?page_id=18956\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spike<\/a>, helps you take action. When a topic you\u2019re monitoring is getting more mentions than usual, we\u2019ll send you a notification &#8211; a spike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don\u2019t have time to keep checking your dashboard, spikes are an easy way to keep up with important activity around your brand. You\u2019ll get a short message (email or SMS*) as soon as buzz starts building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ll tell you when the big stuff happens, as soon as it happens &#8211; so you can react.<br>* Texts are free, but subject to carrier fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why use them?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s say you check your mentions once a day, in the morning. If big news breaks after that, you\u2019re the last to know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spike prevents that from happening, so you\u2019re ready for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Damage control<\/strong> &#8211; Find out about a crisis immediately, so you can put the fire out.<\/li><li><strong>Campaign engagement<\/strong> &#8211; Let\u2019s say your new campaign receives major attention. But <strong>what do we mean by \u201cexpected?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s ask our data scientist, J\u00e9r\u00f4me:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>We look at the expected number of mentions, calculated based on a statistical model calibrated on your previous week\u2019s historical data, and taking into account the hourly and daily seasonalities. You\u2019ll get a Spike if you deviate too much from our expectations.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Translation:<\/strong><br>First, we find the alert\u2019s average number of mentions from the past week. Then we look at the usual patterns for your alert at that time, on that day. Those are \u201cseasonal\u201d patterns. If your alert\u2019s activity is way different than those, you\u2019ll receive a Spike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imagine you\u2019re monitoring a competitor, and they launch a new campaign on Monday afternoon. Everybody\u2019s talking about it. We\u2019ll send a Spike, so you know to keep an eye on the conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But what if that same competitor is always talked about on Monday afternoons, and an increase is normal for a Monday? You wouldn\u2019t receive a Spike in that case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to receive Spikes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Hit the settings icon at the top of your Mention dashboard. Select how sensitive you want your Spikes to be.
