As of 2023, Instagram continues to be used worldwide, but the popularity varies across different regions. The majority of Instagram users are located in the Americas, accounting for 57.18% of the user base. Following closely is Europe, with 30.05% of Instagram users.

In comparison, Instagram has a relatively smaller user base in Asia, where other platforms like WeChat, Line, TikTok, and Weitao provide strong competition. Approximately 7.27% of Instagram users are in Asia. Oceania and Africa make up smaller percentages, with 2.92% and 2.59% of Instagram users respectively.

Which city has the highest engagement rate on Instagram?

Mumbai takes the crown this year with an impressive average engagement rate of 3,976 on Instagram. Hot on its heels is Dubai with an average of 3,063 engagements. Third in line, the Brazilian city Nilópolis surprises with 2,733 engagements. Eminönü in Turkey also stands out, boasting 2,186 engagements. Where are people using Instagram in North America?

Los Angeles continues its reign as the top North American city where people are using Instagram the most, boasting a substantial 209,305 posts. Trailing behind but still making a significant impact is New York City, which despite last year's dip, has bounced back with 96,649 posts. Atlanta and Miami also remain strong contenders with 61,062 and 59,160 posts respectively. While we still see some of the larger cities in the lead, the data points to a variety of neighborhoods and districts maintaining a robust presence on Instagram.

Where are people using Instagram in the UK?

London still reigns supreme in the UK Instagram scene, generating a massive 160,736 posts, dwarfing other cities in the country. Manchester holds steady in second place, with a respectable 22,190 posts.

The rest of the pack sees a mix of familiar and new names. Birmingham and Edinburgh are neck-and-neck with 10,320 and 10,016 posts respectively. Interestingly, the small village of Embsay makes a surprise entry with 10,014 posts, just ahead of Dublin's 9,961 and Glasgow's 9,230.
