Harnessing the power of Mention, an invaluable tool in the realm of digital intelligence, this article explores how we leveraged our tool to meticulously track trends across diverse subjects. We’ve dived into the intricacies of analyzing the trends of 2024, unraveling the insights that social listening provides and offering a glimpse into the pulse of societal discourse in the present era. Setting up an advanced alert with Mention to track trends So, how exactly did we do that? First, we set up an Advanced Alert, our strongest online monitoring tool, to fetch data and see what people online were saying/predicting for trends across every topic this year. Name your alert: Once you’ve headed to the Alert Creation page and clicked on the Advanced Alert, give your alert a name so that you can distinguish it in the Feed and your Analytic dashboards. Create your search query: Click on the search query tab, and you will find the composer that will allow you to create your boolean query search. The composer will be the main area where you can create your keyword searches using boolean operators. You have the option of creating broad or specific alert searches, depending on how you structure your query. Alert Assistant: On the right-hand side, Mention will provide you with the list of boolean operators that are offered, along with an example of how to use them. We recommend reviewing this list to see how you can enhance your alert. Mentions Preview: Next to the Alert Assistant, you will find the Mentions Preview, which displays an estimated number of mentions that your alert might fetch over the course of 30 days. To activate the Preview, click on the preview button that appears at the top of your alert composer Activate Historical Data: If your account has access to the Historical Data feature, you can activate it by clicking on the Activate toggle switch that appears at the top of your composer. By default, Historical Data will be set to 30 days in the past and Mention will display the amount of mentions that will be deduced from your quota when you activate Historical data. Sources and Blocked Websites: The Sources section will allow you to choose the platforms and type of websites that you want to monitor. These are the sources your alert will monitor when the alert is created. The Blocked Website box is where you can paste the URLs of websites you want to exclude from your monitoring. Choose your monitored pages: This section is divided into two tabs: Social Pages: monitor all new posts from social media pages Review Websites: monitor all new posts from specific review websites All you need to do is add the URL of the social pages or review websites that you want to monitor Save Your Alert: After all of that, you can save your new Alert! Your new alert will begin fetching for content on the web immediately upon creation, and you will be brought directly to the Mention Feed. Analyzing Trends with Mention’s Hashtag Cloud From the Alerts section, we then headed over to the Reports area to visualize how the results of our alerts looked like in our new feature, the hashtag cloud. Throughout this article you will be able to see the various topic clouds created for each topic we tracked: Finance, Pop Culture, Politics, Fashion, and Sport. The main advantage of using the hashtag cloud feature is being able to better visualize conversations on social media. It shows results through a collection of hashtags that are commonly appearing in your alert. The size of the hashtag on the graph will indicate the frequency of the hashtag’s appearance in your mentions. Now let’s dive into the breakdown of each topic we tracked using an Advanced Alert and what we found people online are talking about for the upcoming year. Finance 2024 trends How will the world of finance change in 2024? It seems like Bitcoin is set to make an important return. Many are predicting a potential climb to an all-time high with Bitcoin now having an ETF (Exchange Traded Fund) reaching billions of dollars traded. This optimism stems from Bitcoin’s 2024 performance, which surged 150% in 2023. The crypto market in general is showing promise, with Ethereum ETF’s set to be approved this year. This means that Ethereum could potentially be the only other crypto to have a direct investment ETF. Pop Culture 2024 trends Pop culture is always a hard topic to predict, with things changing all the time, making it hard to predict what’s going to come next. However, there are definitely a few things that we know are set to happen this year and people are showing excitement for. Overwatch 2, a live team-based shooter game launched in 2022, is taking over the internet with the anticipation for a new player update and many ready to brawl it out in the virtual battlefield. As well as cutting ties with clothing that brings us down and focusing on wearing things that bring us joy while still looking fabulous. With the rise of innovation in the fashion world the past couple of years, we can expect a fusion of innovation and sustainability as designers increasingly embrace eco-conscious practices. It seems that technology will play a pivotal role, with augmented reality and virtual fashion experiences redefining the way consumers interact with and perceive style. Furthermore, inclusivity will take center stage, as the industry continues to celebrate diversity in body shapes, ethnicities, and gender expressions, reflecting a more authentic and representative vision of beauty. Conclusion As we conclude and venture into the electrifying realm of 2024, we take a look at the predictions for the year from a digital marketing perspective. Take a look at some of the 2024 trends we at Mention predict for the year: Rise of Extended Reality (XR) in Marketing: As technology continues to advance, expect digital marketers to increasingly leverage Extended Reality (XR) – incorporating augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences. Interactive and immersive campaigns will become more prevalent, providing consumers with engaging and memorable brand interactions. AI-Driven Personalization Reaches New Heights: Artificial Intelligence (AI) will play an even more integral role in digital marketing, with advanced algorithms enabling hyper-personalized content delivery. Marketers will harness AI to analyze vast amounts of data, predicting consumer preferences with remarkable accuracy and tailoring campaigns on an individual level. Voice Search Optimization Becomes Paramount: Voice-activated devices and virtual assistants are increasingly popular, therefore marketers will focus on optimizing content for voice search. This shift, along with the Google SGE update, will require adjustments in SEO strategies to accommodate the conversational nature of voice queries, impacting how brands create and structure their online content. Sustainability and Social Responsibility Take Center Stage: With consumers increasingly valuing sustainability and social responsibility, digital marketing campaigns will prominently feature eco-friendly practices and socially conscious initiatives. Brands that authentically align themselves with meaningful causes will likely resonate more strongly with their audience. Interactive Content Dominates Social Media: The era of passive content consumption on social media is evolving. Interactive content formats such as polls, quizzes, and shoppable posts will dominate platforms. Marketers will leverage these engaging formats to not only capture attention but also gather valuable insights into consumer preferences. Niche Influencers Gain Prominence: While mega influencers will still play a role, marketers will shift towards collaborating with niche influencers who have highly engaged and targeted audiences. Micro and nano influencers, with their authentic connections, will be tapped for more personalized and credible brand endorsements. Data Privacy and Compliance Stay in the Spotlight: With increasing scrutiny on data privacy, digital marketers will prioritize compliance with evolving regulations. Stricter measures and consumer demands for transparency will drive marketers to adopt ethical data practices, ensuring the responsible use of consumer information. As the digital marketing landscape evolves, these predictions suggest a future where technology, authenticity, and responsible practices will be key drivers in successful campaigns. Buckle up, for in the dance between data and creativity, 2024 promises to be a marketing showdown where anticipation meets innovation, and the marketers who master the art of this chaos will emerge as the true maestros of the digital age.
